Senior Electrical Engineer

Our Engine Management Segment manufactures and distributes a full line of critical components for the ignition, electrical, emissions, fuel and safety-related systems of motor vehicles.
Our Temperature Control Segment manufactures and distributes a full line of critical components for the temperature control (air conditioning and heating) systems, engine cooling systems, power window accessories and windshield washer systems of motor vehicles.
We sell our products primarily to automotive aftermarket retailers, program distribution groups, warehouse distributors, original equipment manufacturers and original equipment service part operations in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Mexico and other Latin American countries.
We employ approximately 4,300 people in North America, Europe and Asia.
Primary
Responsibilities:
Conduct and perform advanced engineering research, design and development work on assigned projects, either individually or as a team participant.
Direct and coordinated assigned engineering activities required to determine customer needs and requirements relative to products manufactured by the company with an emphasis on electronic controls, embedded systems, and PCB design.
Develop and train less senior engineers by mentoring them and reviewing their tasks and projects.
Duties:
Act as project manager for assigned projects.
Create designs of custom embedded systems including schematic capture and bill of material creation which will require the selection of appropriate electronic components (passive/active), integrated circuits, and microcontrollers.
Focus on new components, processes, and techniques to provide direction to the engineering team for future new product development.
Package designs into printed circuit board (PCB) layouts and off-the-shelf or custom enclosures that may be developed in coordination with mechanical engineering.
Plan, outline and write embedded microcontroller code, primarily in ANSI C, and PC code in Visual Studio and/or LabVIEW.
Create functional and design validation test plans and processes.
Assist and supervise internal and external test labs with all validation test requirements and use expertise to mitigate any impact of testing obstacles to overall design timeline for your projects and those of other engineers.
Conduct, develop, and participate in design planning and design review including DFMEAs for your projects and those of other engineers.
Assist manufacturing with creating or approving necessary documentation for a smooth production launch including process reviews, control plans, PFMEAs, test processes/procedure creation, and ERP database requirements such as production routing instructions and multilevel BOMs.
Support manufacturing and other engineers throughout product life cycle as required due to issues with part obsolescence/availability or fixture maintenance/calibration.
Assist customers with technical issues observed in the field or during integration of products.
Provide feedback and work to develop less senior engineer's skillset and abilities.

Education and
Experience:
Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school in electrical, computer, software, or mechanical engineering.
Special courses pertinent to the research and development field are beneficial.
At least 4 years of on-the-job electronics/embedded engineering experience is required in addition to the required degree or equivalent.
Required skills:
Ability to function as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team including electrical, computer, software, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers.
Ability to quickly grasp new technology and changing customer requirements.
Expertise with basic electronic instruments including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and DC power supplies.
Comprehensive grasp of DC electrical principles.
Firm understanding of DFMEA & DVP&R processes.
Ability to develop and review specifications.
Proficient in the following skills:
Embedded systems experience including the use of ARM microcontrollers.
ANSI C/C+
Programming Good understanding of field effect transistors (FETs) Familiarity with pulse width modulation (PWM) Understanding of analog to digital conversions (ADC) for data acquisition from sensors and peripheral devices Familiarity with CAN (J1939 and CANOpen are preferred protocols) Experience with linear and switch mode DC power supplies.
Experience with power distribution using solid state devices including smartFETs.
Design for EMI/EMC/RFI Requirements Proficient in CAD based PCB Software.
Other beneficial skills and experience (not required):
Familiarity with LIN, RS485, RS232, USB and other communication protocols.
Familiarity with Eclipse based IDE.
Familiarity with Assembly Language programming.
Familiarity with NXP & ST Microcontrollers.
Experience testing product at EMC/EMI Lab.
